On March 12, 2010, Step2 issued a press release voluntarily recalling 2.5 million of their Step2 Push Around Buggy and their Step2 Whisper Ride Buggy ride on toys. They’ve reported that in rare instances, after much wear and tear, the yellow knob pin that fastens the handle to the buggy can loosen and cause the handle to separate from the buggy itself.
There have been 30 reported incidents of handles detaching, 2 of which required medical treatment, and 26 which resulted in scrapes and scratches.
The affected buggies were sold between August of 1999 and March of 2010. All colors are named in the recall including red, blue, green, pink, and orange models. These rides will not only have the yellow knob but they’ll also have a red Step2 logo on the handle. If your model has a handle that is attached with a plastic white or black bolt instead of the yellow knob, then you’ve go a newer model that isn’t included in the recall.
The following models are included in the Step2 recalls:
The Push Around Buggy:
Models: 715700, 792300, 7923TA, 7923OR, 796600, 7966TA
UPC: 733538715701, 733538768493, 733538792306, 733538792313

If you own one of these buggies you should first inspect it to see if it has a pin with the yellow plastic knob. If it does, then immediately stop using the buggy.
